Methodology

Updated

The initial methodology uses collected SEC filings and company facts. The current stored ratio methodology is version 1. A calculation is only displayed when its required data and publication conditions are met.

Dividend events

An event records a supported security, per-share amount, currency, and explicitly reported dates. Regular and special/supplemental distributions are separated. Unknown types remain unknown. A date is not inferred from another date or from an annual financial-statement total.

“Announced schedule” means a payment was announced. It does not certify payment completion, even after the scheduled date. Cancelled records are identified as cancelled and excluded from upcoming calendar results. As-reported amounts have not necessarily been adjusted for stock splits.

The query date is the current Eastern date. Fields added by later filings are not treated as known before their supporting public date. Original filing evidence remains the authority when a record is ambiguous.

Cash payout ratios

Cash payout ratio = annual cash dividends paid ÷ annual net income.

FCF payout ratio = annual cash dividends paid ÷ (operating cash flow − payments to acquire property, plant, and equipment).

These are company-level annual ratios. They are not dividend yields, DPS/EPS ratios, forecasts, or share-class-specific payment guarantees. A stored ratio of 0.42 is displayed as 42%.

The initial calculation uses US-GAAP/USD facts from 10-K or 10-K/A filings and reporting periods lasting 330–400 days. Inputs must belong to the same company, period, currency, and filing accession. The collector requires a comparable annual bundle of dividend, earnings, operating-cash-flow, and PP&E expenditure facts.

Common-stock cash dividends are preferred; a total cash-dividend tag may be used when the common-stock tag is absent. Check the underlying filing to understand the numerator. Common-stock and total-dividend tags are alternatives, not amounts to add together.

Nonpositive net income or FCF makes the corresponding ratio unavailable. Missing comparable inputs and annual periods more than 550 days old also prevent display. An older complete year is not silently substituted for an incomplete newest year.

Annual financial facts

The financial view shows selected US-GAAP/USD annual facts, not a complete financial statement. Values are grouped by exact tag, unit, period start, and period end. The latest eligible filing is selected. Conflicting values within its contexts are marked unavailable instead of averaged or summed.

A second-quarter report can contain six-month cumulative figures; those are not treated as standalone quarterly cash flows. Current views focus on annual periods to keep that distinction explicit. Chart numbers are display-only approximations; tables preserve decimal-based formatting.

Measures not currently established

The initial service does not publish TTM/forward dividend yield, dividend CAGR, or consecutive-increase streaks. Eligible price inputs, complete event coverage, split basis, and security continuity have not all been verified. We do not fill those gaps with assumptions.

Interpretation and limitations

Lower payout ratios do not guarantee safety. One-time items, working capital, capital spending, financing needs, and sector accounting can change interpretation. Generic corporate FCF is not a substitute for bank-specific analysis or REIT FFO/AFFO.
